The Webster Technique: A Technique for Pregnant Women

I have had great success using the Webster Technique with my pregnant patients. Why? Because, it works. When life stressors take place on the spine the mother often feels increased symptoms during pregnancy. The added weight of the baby causes physical stress on the body, and the hormonal changes make the joints more relaxed. This combination results in pain and discomfort.

What does this mean? The resulting tense muscles and ligaments may have an effect on the uterus and may prevent the baby from comfortably assuming the best possible position for birth. Not only does sacral subluxation/misalignment cause imbalance in the muscles and ligaments, it can also contribute to dystocia (difficult labor).

“The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI [(pelvic)] joint dysfunction.” -Dr. Jeanne Ohm, D.C.

I believe and support this statement because when these areas are in alignment both pain reduction and a vaginal non-medicated birth are highly attainable.
